Why community?

We always have one thing in common, we are all becoming something.

I see myself as a compassionate community organizer who looks to best allocate the resources of any size community or group.
All of the resources I need or that you need to solve complex problems are at the fingertips of any community. I bring those hands together.

Why creativity?

Issues and opportunities are complex.
Creative solutions that involve all stakeholders are necessary. I keep the spirit and soul of many in mind. This encourages creative solutions that include ownership.

I discover new ways to turn multiple visions into practical reality using my cultural, social, business and economic knowledge.

Testimonials

Justin was always very impassioned by the work he was doing, thus sought to bring about true change within this community and on his campus. He worked very well independently and always was excited and ready when ‘duty (such as trainings and events) called.’ I think Justin has several strengths and I will try to tell you about a few of them. He has the ability to see long-term solutions to large problems and gets to those solutions by thinking creatively. He was an outside-the-box thinker and we appreciated that about him. Justin also has the ability to assess situations and act accordingly. He proved to be a strong member in our group by being flexible and asking tough questions.

- Mandy Paust, Michigan Campus Compact former AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader. July 30th, 2009

Without a doubt, from my perspective, one of his greatest strengths is his ability to coalesce a group of people quickly into a “team.” I use that word in the academic meaning, “a group of people who depend upon each other for shared deliverables.” He delivers on his own commitments and is willing to help others when they are having trouble. He is compassionate with other’s perspectives, life experiences and emotions, understanding that each person views situations from their own unique framework of experiences. He is an effective listener and is learning the art of skillful inquiry, asking questions that can actually change the way situations are viewed. And, at least with me in the leadership course, he is willing to take a serious look at his own assumptions, question his mental models, and set big development goals for himself.

Thank you, Justin! You did a fabulous job with this [Community Partnership] material; it’s definitely something we will study and utilize as we continue to build our service learning program at Delta…I have always been impressed with you and the work you’ve done as a MCC AmeriCorps*VISTA.

- Michelle L. White, Manager, Cooperative Education and Experiential Learning, Delta College. June 9th, 2009

“Justin kept us on task, focused and moving foreward. he made sure everyone felt comfortable with the guidelines for sharing ideas.”

- Participant in a facilitated meeting for Department of Campus Life at Eastern Michigan University. May 20, 2009

“Justin, you have modeled for me this year how to create a safe space and listen to multiple perspectives, and in many ways have been an informal mentor for me in my pursuit of becoming an ally…I cannot wait to work with you in the next year on Diversity and Social Justice [Committee]. When you are in the room at a Diversity and Social Justice meeting, I feel confident that we will make progress and move towards achieving an anti-racist organization, with everyone feeling included in the conversation.”

- Classmate at Bainbridge Graduate Institute, M.B.A. Program in Sustainable Business. May, 6 2009

“Justin is especially skilled in analyzing information and data, and developing processes and procedures that result in smooth and efficient systems to accomplish tasks. He is a very bright young man with impressive leadership abilities which is evident in his organizational skills and his ability to engage undergraduate students in volunteer activities. Justin…[in his choice to] join the AmeriCorps program as a VISTA member, again demonstrated his commitment to leadership, service and development of community.”
